As of okonomiyaki: was it Kantō-style? Kansai-style of Ōsaka, Hiroshima or Kyūshu is even more tasty, for what I am concerned. Anyway, long time ago …

"Stefan"-style I think...the only essential ingredient is cabbage, in my opinion...tho I like the leeks addition a fair bit too

This finally inspired me to try out your okonomiyaki recipe. Came out fabulous, very tasty, though I used red cabbage and threw in some radish leaves...

Stefan, when you retuned to America in the 1970s and that for 20 years, how does your stay in/by Tokyo in the early 1980s fit in? Indeed, Noguchis generousness to dedicate some days with you is great, and somewhat typical „Japanese“, as his referring to Isumi for your apprenticeship matter.

Hi Thomas...by the time I took the Monbusho, my brother Peter was grown and off to college. My father asked us to come back after that scholarship. Actually I did not really want to return to Washington, I wanted to seek my fame and fortune in NYC. But Fuki wanted to go back, (it had its practical virtues and in her mind it was the responsibility of the eldest son), and so we returned in 1983 and added a large studio and accessory apartment for my father (my father was a painter/printmaker), and lived there until 1998. Then I got my opportunity to have my studio in New York.

A friend from Rinehart (a year ahead of us), worked for Noguchi in Long Island City. She also had some interesting stories about him.

Really? I didn't know that. Wonder who it was...

DC sculptor Nizette Brennan is said to have worked with him in Italy, but I've never talked with her about it. The last time I saw her was at Montgomery College (where I also once taught), but I forgot to ask her then...

Somebody (but I forgot who) told me that Noguchi visited our graduate thesis show, but I never heard that from anyone else, so I wonder whether they got that story right...

How are you doing anyway?? Hope you are doing well! I hear a bit from Howie and Kimio from time to time...
